Kindergarten - INSTRUMENTAL TRIO
LESSON THEME: Patterns & Shapes:  This lesson uses the connections between the number of sides to a square or triangle and the beats in a particular piece of music to help emphasize the math concepts taught by the classroom teacher.  The Instrumental Trio uses interactive conducting examples to expand the students' understanding of the concepts being learned.
THE PLANNING TEAM:  The Lesson is conceived in a collaborative brainstorming session involving the Arts Integration Specialist, the Teaching Artists and the Classroom Teachers.

THE TEACHING ARTISTS integrate their art form with the targeted core curricular standard.

THE CLASSROOM TEACHER creates extensions that communicate the connections between the Teaching Artists' lesson and the targeted core curricular standard.

1st Grade - OPERA
LESSON THEME: Word Choice:  This lesson expands vocabulary acquisition and word choice through the use of expressive acting and the interpretation of opera characters to identify new descriptive vocabulary using body language and physical expression as clues.  As the children engage in the exploration of the opera characters' emotions, they deepen their understanding and awareness of vocabulary that leads to the use of creative word choice that strengthens and energizes their writing.

2nd Grade - CREATIVE MOVEMENT
LESSON THEME: Dance & Place Value:  This lesson teaches place values of integers through creative movement in spaces that have been designated as ones, tens, hundreds & thousands.  As children find their location in the appropriate placement on stage, they are internalizing the place value structures of numbers.
THE PLANNING TEAM:  The Lesson is conceived in a collaborative brainstorming session involving the Arts Integration Specialist, the Teaching Artist and the Classroom Teacher.

THE TEACHING ARTIST integrates her art form with the targeted core curricular standard.

THE CLASSROOM TEACHER creates extensions that communicate the connections between the Teaching Artists' lesson and the targeted core curricular standard.
